Every day, I’m more and more proud of and confident in my decision to stop eating meat!
I was inspired to take the Veggie Challenge after I began reading “Eating Animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer. I also watched two videos on PETA’s website called ‘Meet Your Meat‘ and ‘Glass Walls‘ (see YouTube video below) that completely shattered the idealistic images of farming that I had imagined for my entire life until now. After learning about the impacts of factory farming on animals, the environment, and even my own body, I felt violated and betrayed by the farming industry, and especially by the media. So, I was incredibly grateful to find a multitude of helpful and encouraging resources online and close to home, such as the Veggie Challenge.
I am thrilled to say that I found shopping and even eating out at restaurants easier than I imagined. I can still enjoy as many flavours as I can imagine with just as much nutrients as when I was eating meat. The majority of my friends and family have been incredibly supportive – my mom regularly invites me over for veggie dinner at her house and seems to get very excited about the things she’s making without meat. Every day, I’m more and more proud of and confident in my decision to stop eating meat!
